Tull Glazener Workshops
10:00 Workshop (1A) - Arranging for Mt. Dulcimer:
If you've ever wanted to learn how to take standard
music notation and trun it into dulcimer-friendly tablature,
this class is for you! No previous ability to read standard
music notation is required. Tools and techniques for
creating your own tablature from published sheet music
will be presented, and we will work through a number
of examples as a class, measure by measure, note by
note, chord by chord, to demonstrate them. Please bring
a dulcimer (tuned to D-A-d) and a pencil (with a good
eraser!)
12:45 Workshop (2A) - Playing More Expressively:
Once you have learned a tune, there are a number
of techniques you can use to make your playing more
expressive - things like hammer-on, pull-offs, slides,
vibrato, bends, the use of dynamics, etc. We will spend
this time exploring these techniques, and learn some
new tunes where we can apply them. D-A-d tuning.
Guy George Workshops
10:00 Workshop (1B) - Steel Drum:
All levels. Guy says he can bring 10 loaner instruments
for the class if people who don't have their own would
like to try it. Alternatively, folks who want one of
their own can order one from his website ahead of time.
www.guygeroge.com.
12:45 Workshop (2B) - Penny Whistle:
All levels, bring a "D" whistle. Guy will
have some inexpensive ones for sale for those who would
like to try it but don't have their own.
Tull & Guy Workshop
2:30 Workshop 3A & 3B - Dulcimer Ensemble:
One hour Mountain Dulcimer only or one hour Hammered
Dulcimer only, followed by half hour instruction of
Mountain Dulcimer and Hammered Dulcimer ensemble. (Novice
through Advanced). The dulcimer is a very social instrument,
and when it comes to playing in groups, the principle
of "the whole is greater than the sum of its parts"
definitely applies. This class will focus on learning
a number of multi-part arrangements, with different
parts for each tune suitable for the different skill
levels.
